  • The South Carolina Onsite Advisory Council (SCOAC) is a leadership group formed by Onsite Wastewater Professionals to ensure continuing education and certification programs in South Carolina reflect the real-world needs, challenges, and innovations of our industry.

    SCOAC is made up of respected professionals from across the onsite wastewater field—including installers, pumpers, inspectors, engineers, manufacturers, soil scientists, classifiers, and regulators—who bring deep experience and fresh perspective to the table.

    This council plays a critical role in shaping how we train the workforce that keeps South Carolina’s homes, communities, and environment protected through safe, effective wastewater systems.

  • As our industry evolves, so must the training that supports it. SCOAC members help:

    • Ensure course content is practical, up-to-date, and aligned with South Carolina regulations

    • Identify emerging issues, technologies, and workforce development needs

    • Provide insight that strengthens professional standards and field relevance

    • Build a collaborative, statewide network of wastewater leaders

    By participating, members become part of a community committed to elevating the professionalism and effectiveness of onsite wastewater work in South Carolina.

  • We welcome applications from professionals who are:

    • Actively working in or closely connected to the South Carolina onsite wastewater industry

    • Experienced in fieldwork, training, regulation, or product innovation

    • Interested in collaborating and sharing insight for the good of the broader industry

    • Committed to improving education and raising industry standards

    SCOAC includes professionals from these sectors:

    • System installers and designers

    • Operators

    • Pumpers and inspectors

    • Soil scientists and classifiers

    • Engineers and manufacturers

    • Regulators and sanitarians

    • Trainers, mentors, and educators

  • Members are asked to attend 2–3 short virtual meetings per year and may be asked to provide feedback on specific topics or materials between meetings.

  • This is a volunteer leadership opportunity and there is no fee to join the council to provide input on training topics, identify industry needs, share challenges from the field, and help ensure our programs reflect real-world practices and future trends.
