Mail your application for certification, certification fee, required course attendance certificates, and exam application (if applicable) to NCOWCICB P O Box 132 Lawsonville, NC 27022. Fees vary based on certification level:
Level I: $150
Level II: $200
Level III: $250
Level IV: $300
Incomplete packages will be returned.

If you're aiming for Level III or IV certification, an exam is required. This exam is held four times a year and must be applied for 15 days in advance through the North Carolina Onsite Wastewater Contractor Inspector Certification Board (NCOWCICB).

Certifications expire on December 31st annually and require continuing education hours for renewal, due by November 15th:
Level I & II: 3 hours of CE
Level III & IV: 6 hours of CE

Generally not useful due to limitations. Most people getting into the industry should become Grade II through IV.
Single Septic Tank Conventional (Gravel) Gravity System Only
Requires 6-Hours of continuing education training after the 18-Hour Certification School.

Covers most of the systems installed in the state including any approved gravity or single pump dispersal system not specified in Grade Level III or IV - Includes: Multiple Tanks, Grease Traps, Single Pump or Single Siphon, Fill Systems, Sand Lined Trench

Intermediate
Everything in Grade I, II + Dual Pumps or Dual Siphons, Systems up to 3000GPD, Low-Pressure Dispersal, Flow Equalization, Any System requiring ground water lowering with a pump
Requires 9-Hours of continuing education training after the 18-Hour Certification School.

Unlimited
Covers all subsurface wastewater system types.

Septic Installer Study Guide and Practice Exam
